Just about everywhere I go, people compliment my hair these days. I was blessed to be born with baby-fine, straight hair, that grows super fast and there’s a lot of it. About a year ago, my hair was starting to lose its luster and I began researching ways to help bring back the silky texture it had in the past.
I stumbled across a YouTube video of a woman who was sharing historical haircare tips. The first thing she said was she rarely washed her hair.
That thought repulsed me, but she gave good reasons for this, so I continued watching. After listening and doing a little more research, I adapted a haircare routine that I could live with.
Here’s the basics of my routine:
- I wash my hair once or at most twice a week with a mild more natural shampoo and conditioner.
- I mix the shampoo with a small amount of white vinegar and baking soda with a scalp massager to deep clean my scalp if I have buildup.
- I use a boar bristle brush to brush it out every night.
- I don’t brush it or put it up when it’s wet, and I don’t use a hair dryer, flat iron , or curling iron.
- I use a light hair oil every night when I pin it up before bed.
- I use dry shampoo to stretch it out for another day maybe once a week.
- I don’t put it up in a ponytail anymore.
Over the last year, my hair has become healthier and more manageable and I love my hair again.
