Little dishes of snacks, chips, pretzels and dip. With Text that says Task Snacking for Real Progress.

Sometimes the smallest steps make the biggest difference. That’s what comes to mind when I think about Columbo and his famous line, “Just one more thing.” He never tried to solve the whole case in one giant leap. Instead, he patiently followed one clue at a time, circling back with just one more question until the truth became clear.

If you’ve ever looked at your to-do list and felt completely overwhelmed by the idea of writing a newsletter, drafting a blog, and keeping up with social media all at the same time; you know the feeling.

This is where something called task snacking comes in. Instead of trying to eat the whole meal at once, you take small, bitesize pieces and keep the momentum going. Task snacking helps you break down big, intimidating projects into small, satisfying tasks you can do in just a few minutes. If you’re like me, crossing things off your to-do list helps you see the progress and keeps the overwhelm at bay.

Here’s a few ideas on how you can make this work for you:

Snack on Your Newsletter

You don’t need to sit down and write the entire thing in one sitting. Jot down three subject line ideas while you sip your morning coffee. You can save one helpful tip or story in a running “newsletter notes” file or Trello Board. Write your opening paragraph or write a rough outline today and leave the rest for later.

Snack on Your Blog

Rather than pressuring yourself to finish a full article, start with three bullet points on your topic. Collect quotes or resources during the week as you run across them. When you’re ready, write or edit one paragraph at a time; you’ll be surprised how the little bits add up to great progress.

Snack on Social Media

While you’re waiting for a meeting to start or taking a quick break, draft one captionGather a few graphics or photos and save them in a folder, or Trello Board. You can schedule your next two posts instead of the entire month.

Why It Works

Task snacking removes the weight of overwhelm. Instead of procrastinating, you’re making steady progress in small, doable steps. Over time, those little wins build momentum and keep your content flowing consistently without draining your energy.

Just like Columbo’s famous “one more thing,” task snacking is about making steady progress by asking one small question or taking one small step at a time.

If you start task snacking today, you’ll be surprised at how much easier it feels to manage your content. And if you’d like some help setting up a simple system to organize it all, I’d be happy to chat. Schedule an Appointment here, so we can start making your progress feel easy.
