One of my favorite old shows to unwind with is Leverage. It follows a team of misfits, each with a unique skill set. Together, they pull off wins no one could manage alone.
That’s a lesson for us as entrepreneurs. We proudly call ourselves solopreneurs, but the truth is, trying to do it all often leads to missed follow-ups, wasted time, money leaks, and burnout.
Here’s how to build your own “Leverage team”:
The Mastermind (Nate Ford) – A mentor, coach, or trusted colleague who helps you spot blind spots and avoid costly mistakes. Think mastermind groups, business coaches, or even a peer accountability partner.
The Hacker (Hardison) – Automation that works while you sleep. There are lots of choices out there, but here are some I recommend:
Scheduling: TidyCal or Calendly
Invoicing: Wave or QuickBooks
Email: MailerLite, BeeHiiv or Flodesk
Project Management: Trello, Click-Up or Asana
These tools handle the repetitive work so you can focus on what you do best.
The Crew (Sophie, Parker, Elliot) – The people you delegate to:
A Strategic Virtual Assistant: who not only manages systems and organization but also acts as a partner to streamline processes and keep your business running smoothly.
A General Virtual Assistant: to handle follow-ups, data entry, and other day-to-day tasks.
A Bookkeeper: to keep your finances on track, and also help you make sound financial decisions for your business.
A Social Media Manager: to maintain brand and posting consistency
A Tech Specialist: to troubleshoot and keep your systems flowing, and keep you from wasting precious time with customer support.
When you combine the right tools with the right people, you save time, keep more money in your pocket, and free up energy for your zone of genius.
Just like the Leverage crew, entrepreneurs win bigger when they don’t go it alone.
Start small, automate one thing, or delegate one recurring task. And if you’re ready to figure out what to automate and what to delegate, I’d be happy to help.
The Leverage crew never worked alone, and neither should you. What’s the first task you’d hand off?
