A few years back, while working with my husband on his hotel reconstruction job, I stumbled into a virtual assistant role.
One day, noticing our boss was overwhelmed with all the details, I jokingly suggested he could use an assistant. To my surprise, a week later, I was filling that very role for him, virtually. The job brought a wide variety of tasks, the joy of learning new things, and the freedom of working from anywhere. It was a perfect fit, at least until it unexpectedly ended in 2021.
It took me a bit of time to decide it was an excellent time to start my own virtual assistant business. After some research, I found a nine-month course, with an amazing, no-nonsense leader (Belinda Sandor), and the adventure began.
Here’s what makes being a virtual assistant so rewarding:
The Variety: Every day is a new challenge with diverse tasks and clients. Over the last 25 years, I’ve been able to work in the legal, real estate, and construction fields. I enjoy using the experience I’ve gained in all these different industries, making each day an opportunity to learn and grow.
The Flexibility: Working remotely offers incredible flexibility not just for me, but for my clients too. They appreciate not having to provide office space or equipment, and the convenience of sending work via email fits seamlessly into both our schedules.
The Payment Structure: Unlike some virtual assistants who work with monthly packages or contracts, I prefer billing by the hour. This approach lets my clients pay only for the work they need, using a prepaid debit card system that offers both of us flexibility and budget control.
Through tasks like website assistance, copywriting, resume writing, general administrative support, and crafting newsletters, I’ve found my place as a valuable asset to my clients. They’re often surprised by the diverse ways I can support their businesses, and I relish the opportunity to keep learning and expanding my skills.
Working as a virtual assistant isn’t just a job for me; it’s a lifestyle that combines the freedom of remote work with the satisfaction of helping businesses grow. Every day brings new challenges, new learning opportunities, and the chance to make a real difference in the success of my clients. And that’s exactly what I love about it.
